Loweswater is a scattered farming community around a small, tree-fringed lake of the same name, on the quieter western fringe of the Lakes. Unusually, the lake drains inward towards Crummock Water rather than straight out to the sea. At its heart is the Kirkstile Inn, a much-loved walkers’ pub with its own beers, making a peaceful base away from the crowds.
