A whitewashed 16th-century inn tucked between Loweswater and Crummock Water, the Kirkstile Inn is one of the best-loved pubs in the western Lakes. The pale ale Loweswater Gold began life here, and there’s good food by the fire with the craggy bulk of Mellbreak filling the window. Walks start straight from the door around Loweswater, and there are rooms if you stay.
