A stone hotel and bar planted in the middle of Buttermere village, between the two lakes and under High Stile and Haystacks. The Bridge Hotel has been putting up walkers for generations, with a bar for muddy boots and rooms if you want to stay the night. Handy for the round of the lake or the climb to Haystacks, Wainwright’s favourite fell and the place his ashes were scattered.
