Scale Force
Local highlightThe Lakes' tallest single-drop waterfall.
At around 170 feet, Scale Force is the highest single drop in the Lake District, hidden in a narrow, mossy cleft on the flank of Red Pike above Buttermere. Getting there is the catch: it’s a couple of miles from Buttermere village, along the western side of Crummock Water and across open fell, boggy in places with a beck to cross. The fall is squeezed into a gorge, so you’re right up close before you see it. Best after heavy rain.
