St Cuthbert's Church, Lorton
Wordsworth put the great yew of Lorton into his 1804 poem ‘Yew-Trees’, and the ancient tree — reckoned at a thousand years old — still stands in the vale. St Cuthbert’s, the 12th-century parish church, sits between High and Low Lorton in green country between Cockermouth and Buttermere.
