Of the fells ringing the head of Kentmere, Ill Bell is the one with the shape — a steep, conical top that stands out along the ridge. It reaches 757m, with a cluster of tall stone cairns on the summit that you can pick out from a distance. Walkers often meet it on the Kentmere Horseshoe, a long round of the valley, climbing over Yoke to the south and dropping to Froswick to the north. The pull up from either side is steep but short. It sits firmly in the Lake District, reached most easily from the village of Kentmere.
