Stock Ghyll Force drops in two wooded stages just behind Ambleside — the closest proper fall to the town, and one of the easiest anywhere in the Lakes to reach. A signed path climbs up from the main street in ten or fifteen minutes to railed viewpoints above and below the water, a Victorian pleasure-walk laid out for exactly this. It’s a grand sight after rain. Windermere station is about 7km down the road to the south-east.
