Down a lane at Broughton Mills, near Broughton-in-Furness, the Blacksmiths Arms keeps its old bones: flagged floors, small panelled rooms and open ranges in a building going back to the 16th century. It’s a well-loved walkers’ stop for the Dunnerdale fells, with food served and beer straight from the cask. Foxfield station sits a few miles south.
