A Roman marching camp once stood here — today it survives as earthworks in Cumbria. The Albion Guide lists ten Roman marching camps in the county; this is one of them. Other Roman sites nearby include Hare Hill, Hadrian's Wall, Banks East Turret, Hadrian's Wall and Pike Hill Signal Tower. Wetheral Station is 5.6 km away to the south.
