Rosthwaite is a compact stone hamlet in the middle of Borrowdale, hemmed in by fells and much used as a walking base. The Coast to Coast passes through, and from here you can head up over the passes towards Grasmere or Honister. The Royal Oak is a traditional walkers’ inn, and Stonethwaite lies just up a side valley.
