Hesket Newmarket is a village of Georgian houses lined up round a long green, with an old market cross recalling the fairs once held here. It’s best known now for the Old Crown, a pub owned co-operatively by its regulars, and the village brewery behind it, also run as a co-op. Caldbeck is a mile or so to the west.
