One of the few English falls you can walk right behind, Ashgill Force drops about 55 feet over a rocky shelf in the North Pennines near Garrigill. The ledge behind the curtain of water is easier to reach than the more famous one at Hardraw Force, though wet rock makes it strictly your-own-risk. It’s an open walk in along Ashgill Beck, past the remains of old lead workings. Alston station is roughly 7km to the north-west.
