Patterdale runs on up the valley from Glenridding towards Brothers Water, hemmed in by the high eastern fells — Helvellyn on one side, the Fairfield group on the other. It’s a well-set-up walkers’ village with a couple of inns, including the White Lion, and the road south climbs over the Kirkstone Pass towards Windermere.
