A motte-and-bailey castle once stood here — today it survives as earthworks in Cumbria. The Albion Guide lists eight motte-and-bailey castles in the county; this is one of them. Wennington Station is 9.1 km away to the south. For more of the same, Castle Hill motte (North Yorkshire) and Castle Stede motte are close by.
