Places to explore in CheshireEngland · North West England

Red sandstone and salt shaped Cheshire. The flat green Plain, once brine and dairy country, gives way to a low sandstone ridge carrying Beeston Castle on its crag and the Sandstone Trail along its spine, with the gritstone edge of the Peak District rising to the east. Chester began as the Roman fortress of Deva, and its walls still ring the city. Elsewhere the county mixes the woodland of Delamere Forest, the heath and old copper mines of Alderley Edge, and the great radio dish of Jodrell Bank.
