Nether Alderley Mill is a sixteenth-century watermill tucked under a long, low stone roof that reaches almost to the ground, near Alderley Edge. Two overshot wheels are stacked inside, and the National Trust has restored it to working order, milling flour on its open days. It’s small and seasonal, so check the calendar before setting off. Handy to pair with a walk on Alderley Edge itself; the station there is a couple of kilometres north.
