A picture-book spot: St James the Great sits above a pond at Gawsworth, facing the black-and-white Tudor hall across the water. Inside, the nave keeps its fine 15th-century timber roof. It’s usually open to visitors, and well worth pairing with a look at the hall itself. Macclesfield station is about 5km to the north-east.
