Gawsworth Old Hall is a black-and-white Tudor manor house with one of the country’s rare surviving Elizabethan pleasure gardens, complete with a tilting ground once used for jousting contests. The garden’s open-air theatre has been running each summer since 1969, with touring bands and tribute acts on the bill. House and gardens open on summer weekends only, with an admission charge, and St James the Great stands right next door.
