Alan Garner set The Weirdstone of Brisingamen here, drawing on the old legend of a wizard guarding sleeping knights beneath the hill. Alderley Edge is a wooded sandstone escarpment held by the National Trust, honeycombed with copper mines worked on and off since the Bronze Age. Paths lead out to Stormy Point and other openings in the trees looking across the Cheshire plain towards the Peak District. The station in Alderley Edge village is right below it.
