Quarry Bank at Styal is a National Trust mill estate, and its gardens are a lovely surprise beside all the industrial history. A steep valley garden runs down to the River Bollin, with restored glasshouses and a productive kitchen garden at the Apprentice House, where the mill’s child workers once grew their own food. Styal station is about 1.5km to the east.
