Elizabeth Gaskell, who wrote Cranford, worshipped at Brook Street Chapel in Knutsford and is buried in its graveyard. It’s a plain little Nonconformist chapel, put up soon after the 1689 Toleration Act let dissenters build their own meeting houses at last. Opening is limited, so check before you go. Knutsford station is right on the doorstep.
