A cobbled lane leads down to the timber-framed church of St Oswald at Lower Peover — a rare medieval church built almost entirely of oak, low and dark inside, and well worth seeking out. Right beside it stands the old Bells of Peover inn, a handy pairing for a walk and a lunch. Plumley station is about 2km away. (It’s said “Peever”, by the way.)
