Generals Eisenhower and Patton are said to have met at The Bells of Peover during the war, and the creeper-clad inn still trades happily on the story. It’s a Grade I listed Robinsons pub down a cobbled lane beside St Oswald’s, the timber-framed church at Lower Peover. Plumley station is a couple of km to the north-west.
