The Ashbrook family have lived at Arley Hall since the 15th century, and the gardens here are the main draw: a double herbaceous border laid out in the 1840s that’s usually reckoned the oldest of its kind in England, still following its original plan. There’s also a walled kitchen garden, woodland walks and a grove of champion trees. Open daily from spring to autumn, with an admission charge and a café on site.
