Built around 1614, the White Lion at Barthomley is a thatched, black-and-white timbered inn on the green below the sandstone tower of St Bertoline’s. Inside are low beams, wonky floors and open fires — one of Cheshire’s most photographed old pubs. Its recent trading has been uncertain, so it’s worth checking ahead before you make a special trip.
