All that’s left of St Chad’s at Wybunbury is its tall 15th-century tower, standing alone since the rest of the church was pulled down. Built on soft marl, it leaned so badly it had to be straightened in 1833 by the engineer James Trubshaw, whose soil-and-water method was later borrowed to help save the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The grounds are open; check access for the tower itself. Crewe station is about 5km to the north.
