Open accessNational Trust land — free to wander
Randle Wilbraham of Rode Hall built this mock ruin in 1754 as a summerhouse and eye-catcher, set on the gritstone summit that marks the Cheshire–Staffordshire border. In 1807 the hill drew the open-air camp meeting that launched Primitive Methodism, and the anniversary is still kept here. The folly is now in National Trust care, free to reach on foot, with a long view over the Cheshire Plain. Kidsgrove station is about 3.5km to the south-west.
