The Staffordshire oatcake is a Potteries staple — a soft, savoury oatmeal pancake, best filled with bacon and cheese — and Povey’s has baked them from a small shop on Biddulph High Street since 1994. It’s one of the last dedicated oatcake bakers left in the north of the county; you can buy them plain by the pack or take one as a hot filled wrap. Congleton station is about 5km north, over the Cheshire border.
