A trim Grosvenor-estate village near Eaton Hall, Aldford has brick cottages built to match and a Victorian church set back from the green. The name comes from an old ford on the River Dee, now crossed by a graceful iron bridge. It’s a quiet spot to begin a riverside walk, with Farndon a few miles downstream. Chester station is about 8km to the north.
