Parkgate is a one-street promenade village on the Wirral whose old sea wall now looks out not over water but over a vast green sweep of salt marsh — the Dee silted up long ago. People come for the birdwatching (dramatic on a high spring tide, when the flooding marsh pushes owls and raptors right in close), the potted shrimps, and the ice cream. Neston station is about 1.5km inland.
