Port Sunlight is the garden village William Lever began building in 1888 for the workers at his Sunlight soap factory — some 800 Arts-and-Crafts houses, no two blocks quite alike, laid out around greens and gardens by nearly thirty different architects. It’s a gorgeous place to walk around, and at its heart is the Lady Lever Art Gallery (opened 1922), stocked with Lever’s collection of paintings, sculpture and furniture. Bebington station is a few minutes’ walk away.
