Sefton Park is Liverpool’s largest Victorian park, laid out in 1872 by Édouard André, the French designer behind several of Paris’s grand parks — among the first places in England to borrow that continental style, with sweeping paths around a boating lake rather than a formal grid. The centrepiece is the domed Palm House, a gift from 1896 that was rebuilt after Blitz damage and reopened in 2001; it’s home to an exotic plant collection and a café. John Lennon grew up close by and knew the park well — Mendips, his childhood home, is a short walk east. Free to enter, open all year.
