Places to explore in MerseysideEngland · North West England

Two estuaries shape Merseyside: the Mersey itself and, across the Wirral peninsula, the Dee. Low sandstone ridges rise between them, and out past the sands lies the tidal Hilbre Island. North of the river the Sefton Coast holds one of England's finest dune systems — pinewoods and red squirrels at Formby, Antony Gormley's cast-iron figures wading the tide at Another Place. Inland stand the timber-framed Speke Hall and the model village of Port Sunlight, laid out for the workers of a soap factory.
