Gormley's cast-iron figures across the tidal beach.
Antony Gormley’s Another Place is a hundred life-size cast-iron figures spread along two miles of Crosby beach, each one a replica of the artist’s own body, all standing still and gazing out to sea. As the tide comes in they’re slowly swallowed and then revealed again twice a day, which makes for a genuinely haunting sight. Stick to the firmer sand near the top of the beach: the flats lower down are soft and can be dangerous, so don’t be tempted to follow the figures out at low tide. Waterloo station is about 1km inland.
