West Kirby sits at the mouth of the Dee on the north-west corner of the Wirral, with a big marine lake right beside the sea that’s popular for sailing and paddleboarding. At low tide you can walk out across the sands to the three Hilbre Islands — a proper little adventure, but check the tide tables carefully first, as the water comes back fast. The station is right in town. Caldy is just down the coast.
