Marbury — properly Marbury cum Quoisley — is a scattered village tucked into the quiet country near the Shropshire border, south of Nantwich. Its red-sandstone church, St Michael’s, sits on a little rise above Big Mere, one of a pair of glacial meres that draw wintering wildfowl. A well-marked circuit links the two pools and the Llangollen Canal, which loops through the parish. There’s a lovely old yew in the churchyard, reckoned to be around a thousand years old. Whitchurch station is about 6km to the south.
