Delamere Forest is Cheshire’s largest wood, some 2,400 acres of oak and pine wrapped around the reedy lake of Blakemere Moss. It’s laced with waymarked walking and cycling trails, from easy family loops to longer rides, and there’s a café and cycle hire by the main car park. A good all-weather day out. Delamere station sits right on the edge of the forest, about 1.5km from the visitor hub, so you can arrive by train.
