Places to explore in ShropshireEngland · West Midlands

Few counties pack in more geology than Shropshire, where the ancient whaleback of the Long Mynd, the quartzite tors of the Stiperstones and the wooded limestone escarpment of Wenlock Edge crowd the Shropshire Hills. The Severn slices through, and at The Iron Bridge it spans the gorge where the modern iron industry was born. This was long the frontier of the Marches: the border town of Ludlow keeps its castle and steep medieval streets, and Shrewsbury loops inside a bend of the river. From the plain rises the lone green cone of The Wrekin.
