Ludlow crowns its hill in timber-framed and Georgian streets, with a Norman castle at the top and St Laurence’s — the “cathedral of the Marches” — below it; the poet A.E. Housman’s ashes lie in its churchyard. The town has a long-standing reputation as the food capital of the Marches, with independent shops, a food festival each September, and the Ludlow Food Centre just outside. Ludlow station is a few minutes’ walk north of the centre.
