St Laurence's Church, Ludlow
The vast parish church of Ludlow, St Laurence’s is big enough to be called the cathedral of the Marches, its tower rising about 48m over the rooftops. The chancel holds 28 carved misericords, some from the 1420s, with scenes of everyday medieval life under the seats. The poet A. E. Housman, who wrote of this tower, has his ashes in the churchyard. Open to visitors, with seasonal tower climbs; the station is a few minutes’ walk to the north-east.
