St Mary’s carries one of the tallest spires in England, reckoned third at around 68m to its tip. Inside, the medieval stained glass is the real draw, led by a 14th-century Jesse window of Old Testament kings brought here from elsewhere. The church is no longer used for regular worship and is cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust, so opening can vary; entry is free. It’s a short walk up from Shrewsbury station.
