Wenlock Edge is a long wooded escarpment of Silurian limestone running some fifteen miles from Much Wenlock south-west towards Craven Arms. A footpath threads the woods much of the way, past old lime quarries, with the National Trust owning long stretches. A.E. Housman set it in A Shropshire Lad and Vaughan Williams later put those verses to music. Open woodland, free.
