Thomas Telford is remembered for canals and bridges, but he also designed churches, and St Mary Magdalene in Bridgnorth was the first, built in 1792–4 while he was county surveyor. It’s a light Georgian box in classical style, quite unlike a medieval parish church, set beside the ruins of the castle at the top of the town. The Victorians added the chancel and some fittings later. Open to visitors.
