A 17th-century house above the Severn near Bridgnorth, best known for the modern art inside it — one of the first major private collections of its kind to pass to the National Trust. Sir George and Lady Rachel Labouchere hung Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore in the old rooms before giving the place to the Trust in 1978. Outside, the Dingle is a wooded valley of pools and winding walks. Paid entry; Bridgnorth is close by.
