Cut into the soft red sandstone of Kinver Edge, these are the last inhabited rock houses in England, lived in until the 1960s. Families kept homes in the cliff on three levels, and for a time served teas to day trippers from their doorways. The National Trust took the site on in 1964 and has restored several dwellings with Victorian and 1930s interiors; the upper level is now a tearoom. Paid entry, with opening days limited. The village of Kinver sits just below.
