Bewdley is the best-preserved Georgian town in Worcestershire, a former Severn river-port whose trade drained away when the railways bypassed it — which is exactly why so much of its eighteenth-century frontage survives. Thomas Telford’s three-arched sandstone bridge, finished in 1798, still carries the road over the river. The Severn Valley Railway runs steam trains up the valley from the station here, and the Wyre Forest begins on the town’s western edge.
