The Devil’s Chair is the largest and best-known of the tors along the Stiperstones ridge, a great heap of splintered quartzite. Local legend has the Devil dropping the stones from his apron and sitting here when mist covers the hill, and it features in Mary Webb’s Shropshire novel The Golden Arrow. A stony scramble reaches it along the ridge from the car park at the Knolls. Open nature reserve, free.
