Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.

The Stiperstones is a long quartzite ridge west of the Long Mynd, its crest broken by jagged tors of frost-shattered rock that stand up like ruins. It’s a National Nature Reserve, good for heather, bilberry and upland birds, and thick with devil folklore. The highest of the tors, Manstone Rock, reaches 536 metres — second only to Brown Clee among Shropshire hills. Open access, free; about 10km from Church Stretton.
