St Peter's Church, Melverley
One of only a handful of all-timber churches left in England, St Peter’s stands right above the River Vyrnwy at Melverley, a black-and-white frame of oak inside and out. It dates from 1406, said to be rebuilt after Owain Glyndŵr’s men burned the earlier church, and the whole structure is pegged together without nails. Open to visitors, though its riverside corner is well off the main roads near the Welsh border.
