Market Drayton is a timber-framed market town on the Shropshire Union Canal, best known for its gingerbread — traditionally dunked in port. Joule’s Brewery was revived here and runs its taphouse in the centre, and Robert Clive, later Clive of India, was born just outside at Styche and schooled in the town. The Wednesday market has run since the 13th century.
